BFTO hosted the Bisley Classic on Sunday, October 25th, and thankfully after some wet weather leading up to it the sun came out and it was a glorious day. Some 50+ people took part with competitors traveling from as far away as Yorkshire in the north and Devon in the south, with some Midlanders, Essex and Kentish folk thrown in, we really appreciate the effort people made to attend.
Apart from the usual and ever present safety rules it was a relaxed shoot, starting at around 9.00am we continued to shoot right up to the Bisley Camp hooter at 12.30 when we stopped for lunch, a bbq organized by Lyndeen and Mick who were assisted by the two Paula's, two of our visitors partners who also helped Lyn on stats, so thanks to them, then, when people were ready, back on the course to shoot your remaining targets. Despite the sun, the wind was awful, with targets in the same lane needing completely opposite allowances for wind, one target would move to the left the next to the right, short targets having the shot blown all the way across while the longer ones went dead straight, some people got their head around the conditions admirably quickly, some of us never did!
Considering the number of targets out the number of “whistles” was minimal with the shoot flowing really well, the courses themselves being a good mix of testing and interesting targets. By about 3.30pm it was pretty much all over, John Chopping coming out on top overall after a shoot off with Andy Calpin both having shot an excellent 74 ex 80. BFTO had a few trophy winners, Ashley Holloway won A grade, Des Gould won B grade, and Duncan Hamilton came second in C grade after a shoot off. Well done to them.
After the presentation the remaining BFTO members set about clearing away the courses with the help of some of the visiting shooters, some of which had around 200+ miles to drive home and yet they still stayed to help, take note some BFTO members! A mention also for Andy Slade from Newbury, he spent the morning at his club building the course for next weeks Winter League, came over to us to help marshal in the afternoon, and then stayed to bring in the course, and he didn’t even shoot! Thanks Andy.
