Dear All,

Please note that whilst the wearing of your club I.D. is expected when on club property, it is however NOT compulsory to wear it when shooting as it can be a hazard when tangled with your rifle and therefore dangerous.
So please, when not wearing your I.D., keep it in a pocket or close to hand should you be asked for it.

Thank you.

October BFTO Work Party

Over the weekend of 29th and 30th October 2011, the BFTO held it's third major work party of the year.

In this work party work was carried out in the woods with some management of the trees.

Another piece of work that most of you will have noticed is the new roof on the sponsors range. Another major undertaking in removing the old roof that had its fair share of holes, ready for the new roof.

As you can see from the pictures, the new roof followed the same successful format as used on the vintage and pistol range that was installed earlier in the year. A complete new roof that will keep you dry when you shoot on sponsors.

The new roof monkey!        Boards taking shape
New roof boards going in place        Nearly finished putting the roof base up
On goes the corrugated roof

As always the BFTO Committee would like to thank all our members who gave up some of their valuable time to keep your club in good condition.
The member who helped over this weekend were:

As with the last work party a small draw was made for the people named above to show appreciation for their contribution.

There were 3 prizes up for grabs:
1st Prize is a £25 voucher
2nd Prize is a £15 voucher
3rd Prize is a £10 voucher.

The BFTO and Bisley Live

As you know, the Bisley Live show took over the Bisley grounds on the weekend of 30th September through to 2nd October. The BFTO took part in the show with a modest tent along the firing line on Century Range. From here we offered visitors to the show the opportunity to shoot some air rifles along the firing line and to tell them all about the club.

We had a steady flow of visitors to our tent throughout the weekend and up to our shooting point. We sold some caps and badges, and a lot of interest was shown by the visitors to our tent about what the club does and what times they can visit. These visitors ranged from people who just popped along to see what the show was about, to people who had been shooting for many, many years. Some asked about the different types of competitions available for air gun shooters, while others were happy to compare their experiences with airguns in their youth!

Although it is yet to be seen if the show as a whole is a success, the BFTO having a presence was beneficial for our club as it showed that the National Shooting Centre at Bisley caters for the air gun shooter through the BFTO.

The presence the BFTO had at the Bisley Live show couldn't have been done without the help of some enthusiastic members of the BFTO who gave up their time to promote their club.

The BFTO Committee would like to thank the following people for helping man and organise the BFTO presence at Bisley live. Those people are:
K.Parris, T.Offen, B.Raggett, S.Woods, D.Newman, S.Langley, T.Griffiths, J.Griffiths, B.Attfield, D.Attfield, C.Cranstone, R.Pullinger, B.Moore, M.Edminson, S.Forster, P.Hargreaves, L.Hargreaves, S.Gillies and A.McCabe.

The second BFTO Work Party of the year

Following on from the first Work Party in April this year, the second work party took place on the weekend of the 2nd-3rd of July.
There was not one but two big undertakings for this work party, with the most noticeable the upgrade to the Vintage and Pistol Range.
The first stages of this upgrade took place in between the work parties when the concrete extension was put in place. Over the second work party weekend, the upgrade to the roof and shooting bench took place. As you can see from the pictures below a lot of work was done in a short period of time. As you can tell from the quality of the workmanship, this was not just knocked up on the spur of the moment, a lot of preparation was put into this beforehand.
Many of you may have seen the finished article by now, and will agree that it is a big benefit to this part of the club.

The Shooting Benches Take Shape        Look at all that space

The second project for the weekend is a little less visible at first glance, but no less effort to achieve. This is the extension of the wooden railway sleepers that
run down the side of Sponsors range separating it from the full bore range. This is all part of a longer term plan to bring Sponsors Range up to date and improve the range.
Before the weekend started a trench was dug ready to accept the sleepers that first needed to be moved up from near the clubhouse to Sponsors. Once there they could be secured into place in the trench thus extending the safe shooting area. This was achieved by pure man power with a team of club members moving the sleepers into place and then securing them into the ground before finally joining them all together.

Trench is ready for the sleepers        Sleepers Ready

As you can see from the above photo's it was a bright and very warm day so moving the sleepers and constructing the extension to the Vintage/Pistol range was hard work.

As always the BFTO Committee would like to thank all our members who gave up some of their valuable time to keep your club in good condition.
The members who attended the first work party in April were:
A.Draper, A Chandler, A.Inglis, A.McCabe, A.Riffert, B.Moore, B.Raggett, B.White, C.Nunn, C.White, D.Attfield, D.Gould, D.Hamilton, D.Macey, D.Newman, D.Norman, D.Paget, D.Pickard, E.Hall, E.Watt, J.Attfield, J.Grinton, J.Woodhead, J.Woods, K.Attfield, K.Parris, L.Hargreaves, M.Barfoot, M.Carruthers, M.Edminson, M.Lovitt, N.Jones, N.Nixon, N.Woods, P.Cox, P.Hargreaves, P.Macey, R.Russell, R.Watt, S.Gillies, S.Whicker, T.Cornwall, T.Griffiths, T.Lovitt, T.Offen and T.Snell.
And the members who attended the July work party were:
A.Chandler, A.Cornwall, A.Cox, A.Draper, A.Goldshmeid, A.McCabe, B.Attfield, D.Newman, D.Norman, D.Pickard, D.Walker, G.Bootle, G.Gillies, I.Cox, J.Bennett, J.Darbyshire, J.McDonald, J.Mills, J.Smith, K.Harding, K.Parris, L.Hargreaves, M.Carruthers, M.Edminson, M.Kelly, M.McCormich, M.Smith, P.Caswell, P.Hargreaves, P.Marswall, R.Perer, R.Russell, S.Gillies, S.Hall, S.Langley, S.Woods and T.Offen.

As a show of appreciation to those members who turned up to help at either of the work parties so far this year, all the names were put into a hat and three names were drawn out at random for a small prize draw. The first place prize was £25, the second prize was £15 and third prize was £10, all to be redeemed against club merchandise.

The winners of this raffle were:
1st place:    T Offen
2nd place:    A Draper
3rd place:     D Walker

A list of the winners will also be put up on the club notice board as well. To redeem your prize, please see a member of the committee.

A prize draw will also be made at the end of the next work party in October. All members are eligible for the draw so long as they contribute at least 2 hours of their time over the work party weekend.

See you at the next work party.

Vintage section chooses charity for the year

As we all know the Vintage rifle boys and girls like to put on fun shoots for us have a go at and then donate the proceeds from selected shoots to their nominated charity.
This year, they are proud to announce that their chosen charity is St.Dunstans.
St.Dunstans provide support and care for ex-service men and women who have lost all or some of their sight. Please visit their website at http://www.st-dunstans.org.uk/
So keep an eye out on the calendar to see if you can attend some of the shoots that the Vintage section put on during the year, firstly to help support the work that St.Dunstans do, and secondly to have a good time shooting some fun targets with something old.

NRA Open Day April 30th 2011

As we have done in the past, the BFTO took part in the NRA Open day on the 30th April, the first of two open days this year. Although it seemed slightly quieter than previous years, first estimates are that about 150 people came along to have a go at Airgun Shooting.
The visitors had the choice of shooting pistols, some Vintage airguns, and modern PCP rifles. Targets were set out on the main range for shooting from the bench, and along side the benches were some racks. Out into the open part of the main range and into the woods towards sponsors was an HFT style course.
It is hard to say which was the most popular, as all of the sections were busy during the day.
The committee would like to thank all members who gave up their time to help out during the day, even if it was only for a short while. Thanks must also go to Keith Parris, who liaised with the NRA and organised the BFTO side of the proceedings.
Below are a selection of photographs taken during the course of the day.

The first BFTO Work Party of the year

As part of the general upkeep of our clubhouse and grounds, the first work party of the year was organised for the weekend of 9th and 10th April.
As it turned out the weather was good, maybe a little too warm to be working in, but nonetheless a motivated few set out to complete some of the tasks that needed doing.
Of the tasks that were completed during the course of the weekend was a general spring clean of the clubhouse and re-organisation of the storage tank at the bottom of the range. Also completed was the first stage of a more permanent and safer backstop in the new 25yrd wind(less) tunnel.
One of the major jobs of the weekend was to replace the second bridge going out to the woods at the rear of the main range. With lots of hard work this was achieved on Saturday, with just a few small details needing to be finished off afterwards.
Here you can see some pictures of the bridge as it took shape on the Saturday.

Teamwork is the Key        All Ages Helped Out
The finishing touches        A good job well done
As always, a big thanks goes out to all those that helped during the weekend. Without the work and dedication you all put in over the weekend, our club wouldn't be what it is.
