The key features of pistol shooting are as follows:

Pistol target shooting is normal at 6 yards, 10 metre targets and 20 metre targets.

One of the newer pistol competition at BFTO is Pistol HFT. This is based on the HFT Rifle rules but is open to spring powered or pre-charged pistols only over a range between 8 to 25 yards.

BFTO has a dedicated pistol range which is open to all types of pistol. The range provides a range of plinking targets and also positions for paper shooting.

Practical pistol competitions are held regularly. These involve movement between specified firing points to shoot specified targets in the shortest amount of time possible.

Iron Plate Action Shooting (IPAS) requires speed, with the shooter engaging five ‘steel’ plates as fast as possible.

Pistols range from relatively inexpensive CO2 powered guns to expensive pre-charged target pistols.

A new Pistol competition being introduced for 2012 to the BFTO is the 8@8 competition. Click here for the rules.
